We are a family-run business located in Gibsons, BC. We are a small scale production farm growing high-quality, organic vegetables and fruit. Our farm is land devoted to ecosystems and sustainable food production. We believe in multigenerational, community based education. Our mission is to incorporate youth education into our production farm. The farm owners are both accredited teachers who specialize in outdoor and science education. Alongside sustainable high-quality vegetable production for markets, youth education and empowerment is a key aspect of our business.
The successful candidate for farm manager will have extensive experience in small-scale organic agriculture (minimum 3 seasons), minimum one season in a supervisor position in agriculture, and at least some experience and a passion for education and community outreach. Experience with tractor cultivation and BCS a must.
The farm manager will be the head of vegetable production daily operations, from seed to sales, while the two other executive team members will manage the educational programs and special events. The farm manager will be expected to communicate with the other team members, operate with a team mindset always, and give weekly crop and sales updates.
The farm manager will participate in the educational aspects of the farm, will work often with the public, and will coordinate, train, and oversee short and long-term volunteers as well as youth interns. This will involve the successful candidate being able to balance high-quality, production agriculture with careful, attentioned, and empowering education for people from a diverse set of experiences.
The farm manager will predominantly run the vegetable operation as the head farmer and may have two - four employees directly under him/her, as well as many community volunteers. The farm manager will be expected to create and maintain schedules, coordinate and oversee seasonal staff’s tasks daily and communicate with volunteers and employees as well as the wider community from time to time. The Farm Manager is a highly visible part of our business and therefore should enjoy engaging the community, interacting and building relationships with community members, and promoting sustainable, empowering land stewardship to people of all ages.
