The Richmond Food Bank is looking for a dynamic, outgoing, caring and compassionate individual to join our team as a Programs Assistant.
About the Organization:
The Richmond Food Bank Society supports food security and nourishment needed to sustain health and well-being. Each week our volunteers offer an array of fresh produce and other grocery items five days per week to around 1400 individuals. We also support a School Meal program to address hunger among students, Home Delivery program, and Information services to connect people in need with community resources (virtually, during the COVID-19 emergency response).
The Richmond Food Bank is also a sharing hub for food and supplies to community meals, shelters, and other social service agencies that serve low-income and marginalized people in our city.
Reporting to the Manager of Volunteer Operations, the Programs Assistant will create content for social media platforms, maintain and upload content on our website and create promotional and educational materials. The Programs Assistant will also be responsible for sharing information about our services with various stakeholders and community agencies.
This position will also directly support the operations of the Richmond Food Bank as a whole, in particular the grocery distribution program (on a daily basis, on-site). The successful applicant will – along with other staff and volunteers – serve clients directly in a front-line capacity, communicating with them one-on-one, while also (where appropriate) working closely with staff, volunteers and clients to gather stories and social media content.
Schedule and Hours:
This is a fixed-term 12 week position (with the possibility of extension) at 20 hours per week. The anticipated start date is Monday September 14th (last day of work December 5).
Work hours for this role are normally 11:30AM – 3:30PM, Monday through Thursday and Saturday, though this schedule may be adjusted for the right candidate (to be discussed during interviews). Hours of work will fall within the hours of 9am and 4pm Monday – Saturday.

Skills and Qualifications:
Training and supervision provided: The Manager of Volunteer Operations will be responsible for supervising and overseeing the training and work of the Programs Assistant. Actual training will include shadowing of various staff and volunteers, as well as regular check-in meetings to set and monitor goals and performance.
